His Fairytale Life: A Book About Hans Christian Andersen illustrated by BROOKE BOYNTON-HUGHES

He was a boy
who lived with a mother
who could not read,
but remembered every fairy tale
she’d been told…

A century and a half have passed since Hans Christian Andersen’s death, but his stories are more alive than ever. Across languages, borders, and disciplines, his timeless creations have left a footprint beyond measuring. Now, come along back to the beginning and meet the human that came before the legend.

Braided Roots: The interweaving of history, family, and a father's love illustrated by MADELYN GOODNIGHT

Father braids my hair, just like his,

scented of coconut oil, the familiar tug of fingers on my scalp,

love in every twist...

As a young girl’s father lovingly yet painstakingly braids her hair, he weaves a story about the strength and resilience of their ancestors, Freedmen who walked the Trail of Tears from Mississippi to Oklahoma.

How to Grow a Family Tree illustrated by JASU HU

Emmylou doesn't know what to about her family tree project. There’s her, Mama, and the names Mama won’t say—the stories she doesn’t tell.

She only has one family recipe, the one she trades with Mrs. Patel for her mango chutney. No aunts or cousins—only Rosa next door to watch Emmylou after school. No siblings—only Rosa’s baby twins. No zayde like Eli’s to teach her to ride a bike—only Mr. Li.

Finally Emmylou knows what to tell her class. Her family isn’t so small—she just had to look for it.

Can You Imagine?: The Art and Life of Yoko Ono illustrated by YAS IMAMURA

Yoko Ono has been called many things: Bold. Confrontational. Controversial. Artist. Musician. Witch.

But she has always been Yoko: a girl who used her imagination to escape the horrors of World War II, and then a woman who used that same gift to find peace after an act of unfathomable violence.

This is a story of an artist, musician, and writer who has always innovated beyond the limits of the accepted, whose brilliance cannot be overshadowed, and whose imagination has been truly revolutionary.

My Cat is a Secret Agent written and illustrated by DANIEL J. MAHONEY

Samantha knows her cat, Walter, is anything but ordinary—he’s a secret agent with the very serious code name Kitty Pants. Unfortunately, no one else appreciates Walter’s superspy-ness. Samantha’s parents think he’s nothing more than your average pet. It’s up to Walter to convince them otherwise.

Operation Kitty Pants is a go. But will this undercover feline prove his impressive espionage skills battling foes, including a butt-sniffing pup, a wild-haired kitty, and a band of mischievous mice, or will be find his missions compromised?
