Oblong 12mo, 172pp. Color pictorial boards; all edges red. Patterned endpapers; illustrated on every page, alternating between full color chomolithograph spreads and two color spreads. Edges worn, some chipping to paper at spine hinges, tear a lower inch of front outer hinge (endpaper hinge unaffected), Wear around all edges, chipping to spine ends and edges, free endpapers discolored, else an internally clean, bright copy.
Early printing. A delightful collection of 6 tales in verse from one of the pioneers of children’s literature. These tales are wonderfully captured in stunning chromolithographic illustrations in both color and black and white. While the title story is about the military, the five other stories are centered around nature and childhood play and adventures.
