Old & Rare
[HOWARD, C.J.] Object Teacher. NY: McLoughlin Bros. (ca. 1884). 4to, 12pp. Gray cloth spine with color pictorial boards. Color illustrations on every page. Edges worn, particularly at corners, front cover lightly soiled, rear cover more so, two small puncture holes to cloth spine, else an internally clean, bright copy.
Early printing (possibly first?). An instructive, wordless book filled with pictures of every day objects for children to learn their correct names. With stunning full-color illustrations and a glossary of terms at the rear, this early example of a teaching picture book from one of the pioneering American publishing firms in the use of color printing for children’s picture books.
