Chicago: Reilly & Lee, 1939. 8vo, 287pp. Green cloth spine pictorially stamped in black with color pictorial boards. Numerous b&w illustrations. A bit rubbed along bottom edge, slightly so along top edge, slightly cocked, a bit of foxing at edge of sheets, else an internally clean, bright copy in original color pictorial dust jacket (some small chips, tears, and creases at edges).

First printing of the 1939 “Popular Edition.” Issued in a slightly larger format, this was one of three titles issued in “Popular Edition” to coincide with the release of the 1939 MGM film of The Wizard of Oz. The other two titles were The Scarecrow of Oz and The Tin Woodman of Oz. The second Oz book.
