LEAF, Munro. Fair Play. NY: Frederick A. Stokes, 1939. 8vo, 96pp. Blue cloth pictorially stamped in yellow. Two-color illustrations on nearly every page. Spine ends and lower corners a bit rubbed, boards lightly scuffed, with faint damp-stain at upper right of front cover, endpapers a tad aged with slight damp-stain at top of free endpapers, else a clean, tight copy in original color pictorial dust jacket (lightly soiled, some edgewear, top of front and rear flaps lightly damp-stained,). Signed by the author/artist, Munro Leaf, with a small drawing.
First edition. The fourth book in Munro Leaf’s series of humorous educational books, which began with his first published work Grammar Can Be Fun, and at the time of this book’s publication also include Manners Can Be Fun and Safety Can Be Fun. A wonderful book of manners and etiquette in which the author attempts to “write in terms understandable to children, to clarify for them the need of respect for themselves and their fellow beings.”
