Pictorial endpapers; 11 mounted color plates with tissue guards and a few smaller b&w illustrations. Spine ends and corners a tad rubbed, endpapers slightly aged, else a clean, bright copy in original color pictorial dust jacket with color plate mounted to front panel (some small chips along edges, some wear at folds, a bit aged). Rare in jacket!

 

First and only edition, having the color illustration that was printed on the cover of the softcover issue (which is far more common) mounted on the front of the dust jacket. All subsequent issues illustrated by Tenggren had the color plate mounted on the cover with the dust jacket printed in black-and-white. The tenth of the annual Swedish collection of fairy tales, titled ”Among Gnomes and Trolls” in English, and the first to feature illustrations by Gustaf Tenggren. Aina Masolle was also the first female illustrator to appear in this annual. Copies of this edition in hardcover are quite scarce and in the original jacket exceedingly rare!
