A Sip Of The Past!

Food can carry so much history -- and author/illustrator HYEWON YUM is joining us with a picture book that shows us just how true that can be.

A Spoonful of the Sea follows a young girl who, instead of the cake that she wanted, is presented with miyeokguk (seaweed soup) for her birthday. She doesn't want it -- that is, until her mother explains the long history of the soup, of the grandmothers and great-grandmothers that have not just made it, but swum in the ocean for the ingredients. It's a beautifully told and gorgeously illustrated tale that will have you and your young ones thinking of foods and the traditions that surround them in a whole new way.
