VIRTUAL LAUNCH for Lawless Spaces by COREY ANN HAYDU

VIRTUAL LAUNCH for Lawless Spaces by COREY ANN HAYDU
Tue, Jan 25, 2022
January 25th, 7:30pm EST Virtual

For generations, the women in the Dovewick family have had a few things in common. For one, they have the kinds of bodies other people feel free to project their assumptions onto. And another, starting on their 16th birthdays, each woman has kept a journal in which they write poems about things not said aloud. When Mimi turns 16, her mom gives her a journal of her own - before heading off on an unexpected trip with her boyfriend and leaving Mimi with only the Dovewick women's journals as company. Trying to understand her place in the world, Mimi dives into the uncovered journals of her grandmother, great-grandmother, and beyond. She immerses herself in each of their lives, learns of their painful stories and their beautiful sprits. And as Mimi grows closer to each of these women, she starts to forge her own path... just as a shocking revelation from her mother threatens to upend everything Mimi knows about her past.

Lawless Spaces is a hauntingly beautiful tale of generational trauma, the price that can come with confronting systems of power, and the resilience of women in the face of a world that seeks to put them in boxes and then tear them apart.

This event will feature COREY ANN HAYDU, the author of Lawless Spaces, alongside JOY MCCULLOUGH, the author of Blood, Water, Paint, a stunning novel in verse about the courage of Artemisia Gentileschi - the first woman accepted to the Florence fine-arts academy - as she fought for the respect and love she deserved amidst the patriarchal violence of Renaissance Italy.

Tuesday, January 25th at 7:30pm via Crowdcast.
