Unlikely Friends in Unlikely Places

Heartfelt and heartwarming, our Middle Grade Pride panel features four books that tackle identity, love and adventure. 

In The Civil War of Amos Abernathy by MICHAEL LEALI, a historical reenactor discovers the existence of an Albert D. J. Cashier, a Union solder who might have identified as a trans man if he lived today, and works to share Albert's story with his divided twenty-first-century town. In Every Bird a Prince by JENN REESE, a young girl who doesn't care at all for crushes or first loves, uncovers a magical kingdom which she must now fight to protect —  all while trying to figure herself out. 

In Ellen Outside the Lines by A. J. SASS, a neurodivergent 13 year-old travels Barcelona where she learns to say goodbye to old friends and makes new ones who accept her for exactly how she is. In A Touch of Ruckus by ASH VAN OTTERLOO, our hero Tennessee Lancaster can pry into memories with a single touch and ends up uncovering an ugly family secret that threatens all she knows.
