SEUSS, Dr. Yertle the Turtle. And Other Stories. NY: Random House, [1958]. 4to, [88] pp. Color pictorial boards. Color pictorial endpapers; color illustrations on nearly every page. Spine ends and lower edge a bit rubbed, some light rubbing to covers and creases at hinges, endpapers a tad discolored, traces of handsoiling at margins of first few sheets, else a clean, tight copy in original color pictorial dust jacket (light edge wear with a few small chips, evidence of sticker removal from top of front panel).
First edition. Dr. Seuss presents three modern fables in the rhyming favorite Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories. The collection features tales about greed (“Yertle the Turtle”), vanity (“Gertrude McFuzz”), and pride (“The Big Brag”). In no other book does a small burp have such political importance!
