Author: Arthur Quiller-Couch
Illustrator: Kay Neilsen
QUILLER-COUCH, Arthur. The Twelve Dancing Princesses. And Other Fairy Tales Retold by Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch. Illustrated by Kay Neilsen. NY: George H. Doran [1923]. 8vo, 244pp. Blue boards pictorially stamped in gilt. Pictorial endpapers; 16 hand-tipped color plates. A remarkably bright copy with minute rubbing to spine ends, tiny dark spot above publisher's imprint on spine (barely noticeable) in original pictorial dust jacket (slight wear to upper spine end, a tad sunned).
First US trade edition under this title (having been previously issued in 1913 under the title In Powder and Crinoline), having roman numeral 1 after title on copyright page and a new preface by Quiller-Couch. Kay Neilsen's brilliant color illustrations complement noted folklorist Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch's masterful retellings of 6 fairy tales. Nielsen's color plates are vibrant and lush.
