Brown cloth decoratively stamped in gilt with a color pictorial label affixed to the front; t.e.g. Pictorial endpapers; frontispiece and 10 color plates, plus numerous b&w illustrations. A remarkably fine, bright copy housed in the original color pictorial gift box (a bit soiled and worn, cover corners split, base still solid). Scarce in box.

First Elizabeth Shippen Green Elliott-illustrated edition. Some of the bard’s most famous plays, transformed into a format to make them easy for young readers, captured wonderfully in Shippen Green’s gorgeous watercolor illustrations. Elizabeth Shippen Green (her married name was Elliott) was a student of Howard Pyle who studied with Jessie Willcox Smith and Violet Oakley.
