Seven Lady Godivas
Author: Dr. Seuss
Illustrator: Dr. Seuss
SEUSS, Dr. Seven Lady Godivas. NY: Random House [1939]. 4to, [80]pp. Salmon cloth pictorially stamped in brick red. Two-color pictorial endpapers; profusely illustrated in two-colors, save for one three-color picture. Lower spine end lightly rubbed, rear hinge a tad discolored (probably due to aging of binding glue), else a fine copy in original color pictorial dust jacket (some rubbing and edge wear, a few small chips to spine ends and corners, slight crease/crack down spine just under title).
First edition. A hilarious, racy, and decidedly not juvenile early book from the author of The Cat in the Hat, about the ever-naked Godiva sisters. Seuss definitely meant for this to be risqué, but it’s the author/artist’s gift for puns that stand out, though the naked ladies may surprise some unknowing Seuss fans!
