Compton, 1919. 4to, [35]pp. Grey quarter cloth with floral-patterned boards decoratively stamped in gilt. 17 hand-tipped color plates (including title) mounted on sheets with decorative borders printed in two colors. Binding worn at edges, boards a bit soiled and lightly foxed, hinges mended, pages a bit yellowed with age, else internally a surprisingly clean, bright copy with plates still quite sharp. Rare.

First edition. A delicately illustrated retelling of a number of the Greek myths that revolve around flowers and animals. Each tale is accompanied by a lush color plate that pairs the animals and flowers in each tale with a vignette of the action of the story, bringing an interesting perspective to these classic tales.
