Illustrator: Ingri & Edgar Parin D'Aulaire

D’AULAIRE, Ingri & Edgar Parin. The Lord’s Prayer. Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Doran, 1934. 4to, [32]pp. Red cloth spine with color pictorial boards. Color pictorial endpapers; 7 two-page and 2 full-page color illustrations and numerous smaller b&w illustrations. Light rubbing around edges, spine cloth a tad soiled, else a clean, bright copy in original color pictorial dust jacket (light edge wear, a tad soiled).

First edition, Protestant Issue (the book having been issues in Protestant and Catholic editions to reflect each faith’s slight changes to the prayer). A profusely illustrated picture book edition of the “Our Father” prayer, captured in striking full color lithographs by the Caldecott Medal-winning husband and wife team behind Abraham Lincoln, D’Aulaire’s Book of Greek Myths, Norse Gods and Giants, and many more. A particular highlight of the book is the use of gold ink to frame each lithograph and as the background for the covers and dust jacket. A gorgeous book!
