CRANE, Walter. Little Red Riding Hood. [London: George Routledge & Sons, 1875]. 8vo, 8pp. Color pictorial paper wrappers. 8 full-page color illustrations. Evidence at either side of spine (quarter-inch on front, half-inch on rear) of wear possibly due to some sort of adhesive being removed; light wear around edges, wrappers a tad soiled and rubbed, light internal hand-soiling, else an attractive copy.
Probable first edition based on adverts on rear cover. A wonderful example of the groundbreaking collaboration between influential children’s book illustrator Walter Crane and pioneering wood-engraver and color printer Edmund Evans. A Victorian adaptation of the classic Perrault fairy tale, featuring Walter Crane’s bright illustrations wonderfully captured by Edmund Evans’ innovating chromoxylithographic printing style.
