Author: Robert Louis Stevenson
STEVENSON, Robert Louis. A Child’s Garden of Verses. London: Longmans, Green, and Co., 1885. 12mo, x 101pp. Blue leatherette decoratively stamped in gilt; t.e.g. Head of spine a bit rubbed, tail and corners less so, spine a tad darkened, free endpapers discolored with age, else internally a surprisingly clean, bright copy.
First edition, being printed by Spottiswoode & Co. The first appearance of Stevenson’s beloved collection of children’s poems. Though it would come to be illustrated by dozens of famous (and not so famous) illustrators, this charming, hand-sized unillustrated volume is how it first came to be loved and is a true gem for any collector.
