BARKER, Cicely Mary. The Book of the Flower Fairies. London: Blackie & Son [1927]. 8vo, 92pp. Green cloth decoratively stamped in gold. Gray endpapers; 72 color plates. Spine ends and lower corners a tad rubbed, slight foxing to fore-edge, else a clean, tight copy in original color pictorial dust jacket (some wear to edges and a few closed tears, rear panel a bit soiled).
First edition thus, being a bind-up of three previously published volumes. Cecily Mary Barker’s hugely popular Flower Fairies of the Spring, Flower Fairies of the Summer, and Flower Fairies of the Autumn were combined into this handsome edition the year after the publication of the last book. The charmingly innocent and hopeful vision of Barker’s paintings were very much in vogue after the first World War, and this edition features 72 delightful color plates with some of Barker’s most beloved fairy artwork!
