First edition. 1945 Newbery Honor Book! This touching classicis a beautifully written tribute to the importance of kindness, acceptance, and standing up for what's right. The fourth collaboration between these two award-winning talents (Slobodkin having won the Caldecott Medal that year for Many Moons) following the first three books in The Moffats series – two of which had also been Newbery Honor Books the preceding two years! Wanda Petronski is ridiculed by her classmates for wearing the same faded blue dress every day. She claims she has one hundred dresses at home, but everyone just laughs. Then Wanda disappears from school and her classmates learn how wrong they were.
