Scarce – particularly in this remarkable condition!

First and only edition. The third of the annual Swedish collection of fairy tales, titled ”Among Gnomes and Trolls” in English, and one of only 8 editions illustrated entirely by John Bauer before his untimely death in a shipwreck in 1918. This marks the first appearance of these illustrations by Bauer, which though painted in full color, were reproduced in halftone and two colors due to the technical limitations of the time (some having been reproduced in full color in later editions alongside the Einer Norelius illustrations).
