Amateur sleuth Stevie Bell needs a good murder. After solving the now famous Truly Devious case at her exclusive boarding school, she's stuck at home in the suburbs of Pittsburgh all summer long. The world has moved on from her fifteen minutes of viral fame, her friends are scattered across the country, and it looks like it's going to be a whole summer of "normal" (read: boring) things, like clocking in and out for her job at a tiny grocery store, trips to the Cracker Barrel, and So. Much. Potato salad.
But then, she receives an email from the owner of Sunny Pines, formerly known as Wonder Falls - the site of the notorious (and unsolved) Box in the Woods murders. Back in 1978, four camp counselors were killed in the woods outside of the town of Barlow Corners, their bodies left in a gruesome display. The new camp owner offers Stevie an invitation - come to the camp and help him work on a true-crime podcast about the case.
Stevie agrees, as long as she can bring her friends from boarding school along as well. After all, what could be better than a summer spend investigating old crimes with your best friends?
But something evil still lurks in Barlow Corners. When Stevie opens the lid on this long-dormant case, she gets much more than she bargained for. There Box in the Woods always has room for more victims, and this time Stevie may not make it out alive.
