Illustrator: Maurice Sendak
Back in 1990, Caldecott Medalist Maurice Sendak accepted a commission to create 10 paintings to accompany an orchestral performance of a piece based on nonsensical Czech nursery rhymes. When his good friend, author Arthur Yorinks, saw the pictures, he commented that they’d make great picture book illustrations. And “presto!” they soon began tossing ideas back and forth and before too long, Presto & Zesto in Limboland came to be! With a nod to Alice, the story starts with best friends Presto and Zesto making a wrong turn into the topsy-turvy world of Limboland. There they encounter manic shepherd boys, biting bulls, surly goats, sewing bears, and Bumbo the monster who has the bagpipes the boys need so the sugar beets can get married and they can get home – and finally have some cake! Which is all they wanted to start with!
Your young readers will delight in Sendak and Yorinks’s wild romp through Limboland as they join Preto and Zesto on a truly unforgettable and hilarious journey! Also included is an afterword by Arthur Yorinks about the roundabout journey the book took from inception to publication. Ages 4-8. 28pp.
