The story follows German professor, Otto Lidenbrock, on his descent down an extinct Icelandic volcano towards the Earth's core. Together, Professor Lidenbrock, his nephew, and their guide discover a subterranean world of prehistoric life before eventually resurfacing in southern Italy.
