- The Doll Test illustrated by DAVID ELMO COOPER. During the first half of the twentieth century, schoolchildren in many parts of the United States were segregated. In thier so-called doll test, pioneering Black psychologists Kenneth and Mamie Clark investigated the effects of segregation by presenting children with two Black and two white baby dolls. "Show me the doll that you like best," they said. "Show me the doll that looks like you." Their findings went on to change the course of segregation in America!
- The Purple One: A Story of Prince illustrated by SIRIN THADA. Prince is remembered as one of the greatest musicians and performers of all time. But before he achieved global superstardom, he was a child growing up in Minneapolis, with a universe of music inside him. From his first forays into writing songs with his school friends to his unprecedented three-album record deal at 19, and his surprise hit film Purple Rain to performing at the Super Bowl, Prince was never afraid to blaze his own trail — creating something entirely new, entirely free, and entirely PRINCE that would shape music and culture and resonate with audiences for generations to come.
- And She was Loved: Toni Morrison's Life by ANDREA DAVIS PINKNEY. From imaginative child to visionary storyteller, Toni Morrison was a fiercely inspiring writer that helped change the world. This poetic book is part love letter and part biography, praising the power of this Nobel Prize winner. With its tender refrain, readers will know how much Morrison's stories — and their own — mean to the world. She was loved — and so are they!
