Join Books of Wonder for the Launch of This Gorgeous Picture Book!

Books of Wonder is so excited to host the launch for Desert Queen by JYOTI RAJAN GOPAL! This dazzling picture book biography in verse follows the life of beloved Rajasthani drag performer Queen Harish, known as the Whirling Desert Queen of Rajasthan. This event will feature an extra special dance performance that includes a short lesson, as well as a fun crafting activity to create ghungroos, anklets with bells that guests can make and wear for the dance performance!

Desert Queen tells the true story of how young Harish Kumar, who lost his parents and had to support his little sisters, followed his love of and gift for traditional dance to become the beloved Rajasthani drag performer Queen Harish. He defied the gender conventions of middle class Indian life and grew up to dance with Bollywood stars! Detailed in kohl-black lines and shapes and brilliant jewel-like colors, this story is sure to inspire!
