Fri, May 13, 2022
May 13th, 6:00pm EST 17th Street Location

A "Percy Jackson Meets Yu-Gi-Oh" Adventure From Instant Bestselling Author Xiran Jay Zhao!

Following the incredible success of their Nebula Award-nominated YA novel Iron Widow, XIRAN JAY ZHAO is back with a middle grade mythological adventure!

Zachary Ying and the Dragon Emperor is full of everything you could want in a book: magical heists, thrilling battles... and a possessed gaming headset?

Check it out below!

Zachary Ying never had many opportunities to learn about his Chinese heritage. His single mom was busy enough making sure they got by, and his schools never taught anything except Western history and myths.

So Zack is woefully unprepared when he discovers he was born to host the spirit of the First Emperor of China for a vital mission: sealing the leaking portal to the Chinese underworld.

...except first the Emperor possess Zack's gaming headset by mistake, and then his mom's soul gets taken by demons.

So now, with one of history’s most infamous tyrants yapping in his ear, Zack must journey across China to heist magical artifacts and defeat figures from history and myth, all while learning to wield the emperor’s incredible water dragon powers.

And if they can’t finish the mission in time, the spirits of the underworld will flood into the mortal realm... and Zack will lose his mom forever.

XIRAN JAY ZHAO will be at our 17th St. store, for an IN PERSON event and book signing! CLARIBEL A. ORTEGA, author of the magical middle grade novel Witchlings, will be there as well for an evening of fantastic conversation!

Friday May 13th at 6:00pm at Books of Wonder's 17th St. location!
