Virtual Picture Book Showcase!

It's storytime! Join us to celebrate these beautiful picture book titles  and share the warmth of a story's special cultural memory with you and your young reader.

Gather up the whole family to hear these award-winning authors and artists read their work aloud during this entertaining weekend showcase. Featuring:

  • Awe-some Days: Poems About the Jewish Holidays by MARILYN SINGERIn this cheerful, enjoyable poetry collection, a family decides to celebrate every Jewish holiday for a full year, “the ones we know well, the ones we do not.” Starting with new-year apples dipped in honey on Rosh Hashanah all the way to flowers and chocolates on Tu B’Av (often called “Jewish Valentine’s Day”), readers can explore the joy and meaning of the various holidays along with this lively family of five. By an award-winning and beloved children’s poet, this is a wonderful introduction to Jewish celebrations, observances, and days of remembrance.

  • The Blue Scarf by MOHAMED DANAWAI. Layla lives in a beautiful blue world. One day, her mother gives her a gift—a blue scarf that Layla lovingly wears around her neck. But when a gust of wind carries the scarf away, Layla sets out to find it, traveling by boat to various worlds of different colors. But her scarf is nowhere to be found. Eventually, Layla lands at the shores of a Rainbow world and discovers the secret of her lost scarf while also finding a welcoming new home. A beautiful and poignant refugee story about identity, emigration, and acceptance told by Mohamed Danawi and brought to life in gorgeous color by illustrator Ruaida Mannaa.
  • Bus Stop by author ANGELA DALE and artist LALA WATKINS! In the spirit of The Snowy Day, a group of kids from A to Z arrive at the bus stop only to discover that the bus is a no-show — snow day! It’s time for school, and all the neighborhood kids, from Antoine to Mahmoud to Zoey, gather one by one in the frosty dawn to wait for the school bus. But something more thrilling arrives first. Snowflakes fall, transforming the bus stop into a winter wonderland—and an official snow day. No school!
