In the far future, after geological upheaval,
magic is dominant and technology barely tolerated. The Faeregine dynasty has
ruled the world of Impyrium for over three thousand years by the strength of
its magic. But their magic has been fading over the generations. Rebel forces,
a sinister demon, and a devious rival house all threaten to displace them and throw
Impyrium into chaos. Hazel, the youngest of the Faeregine triplets, isn't
interested in ruling. She just wants to study magic. Hob, a spy for the rebels
who has infiltrated the palace staff, finds himself in the unlikely position of
tutoring Hazel in her non-magical studies. Hob wants to destroy the system that
oppresses nonmagical humans, like himself, but as Hazel and Hob unexpectedly
become friends, they uncover a conspiracy bigger and more sinister than either
of them could have imagined. Will they be able to save Impyrium from those who
conspire to destroy it? Your young readers will be swept away by this
magical world as they discover with Hazel and Hob that courage comes from the
unlikeliest of places. Ages 8-12.
